In July 2013, Tractebel Engineering (GDF SUEZ) fully acquired former company Cethar Consulting Engineers Limited (CCE) – renamed Tractebel Consulting Engineers pvt. Ltd (TCEPL), a known and respected consultancy specialising in Detailed Engineering and Owner’s Engineering in Power Plants; meeting a key customer need to have a local presence in the South of India to complement the company’s offices in Delhi and Gandhinagar.

A CHANGE OF NAME – NOT DIRECTION
Since its acquisition, on the operational front, the renamed company TCEPL continues to serve its many customers – IPP and captive power plants in India and abroad (Africa, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia). Under  the experienced hands of Ekambaram Appasamy (ex-CCE), the goal is to be a key player the Thermal power sector in India, with one shared objective driving the Tractebel Engineering (India)/TCEPL team: to provide efficient and timely service to its customers at optimum cost.

SIZE (AND LOCATION) MATTER IN INDIA
India is a large country with diverse culture and many languages. It is critical to have local presence in some specific parts of the country to improve Thermal business opportunities, which like the country, are widespread.

Already busy on two major Supercritical CFPP – OE missions (2 x 660 MW Supercritical CFPP in Madhya Pradesh and the 700 MW Supercritical CFPP in Bellary, Karnataka), about 1000 km and nearly 2 000 km from Delhi respectively, Tractebel Engineering (India), as much as its customers, is pleased to have both a solid base to work from in Chennai, as well as the additional resources the 100-strong team that TCEPL brings.

By boosting its numbers and gearing up to provide a complete portfolio of in-house services well in advance of anticipated Power projects in India, Tractebel Engineering (India) is well placed to provide the full range of consulting and engineering services that will be needed to fast-track future missions.

Detailed Engineering together with Project management enhances understanding and management of project tasks. Thanks to this timely acquisition, Tractebel Engineering is prepared to leverage the opportunities of tomorrow for all its current and future clients. REALISING THE VALUE OF EXPERT DETAILED ENGINEERING

Detailed Design is a necessity in engineering, but in expert hands it can also bring long term performance and cost benefits to Thermal Power clients.

ENSURING PROJECT OBJECTIVES ARE MET FROM THE START
The value that a quality design can bring to a Power Plant project is important in terms of long-term reliability, performance, safety and particularly the impact on cost. Understanding what is needed to optimise projects and where key cost savings can be made; applying the multidisciplinary knowledge needed to refine, define and dimension a plant design can make all the difference to the end result years down the line.

ONE MORE CENTRE OF COMPETENCE
From retrofitting Waste Heat Recovery Boilers, to the full design of a Supercritical CFPP and other power projects: operational parameters, plant reliability, material and equipment procurement requirements and the design life of the plant can be optimised – at best cost – from the start. With TCEPL, a new centre of competence within the group, Tractebel Engineering customers looking to construct a new power facility in India, or anywhere else in the world, can expect to benefit from Tractebel Engineering’s gain!

The Detailed Engineering capabilities of TCEPL, backed by the good name and best industry experts of Tractebel Engineering will serve as a key value addition to our customers.

THE FIRST TO BENEFIT

Demonstrating that its value is appreciated across India with private and public customers; bringing in two big projects, TCEPL is already proving their worth in Tractebel Engineering’s books.

GDF SUEZ – MEENAKSHI 2 x 350 MW PHASE II (Andhra Pradesh)
Begun in 2012, CCE held a contract with Meenakshi Energy Private Ltd (MEPL) for the development of Phase II (2 x 350 MW), geared to completing a 1,000 MW Thermal Power Plant at Thamminapatnam (Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh). CCE originally provided Project Management Consultancy Services, including part of the detailed engineering for Civil, Electrical and Instrumentation and Interface Engineering.

In December 2013 GDF SUEZ Group acquired a majority 74% stake in Meenakshi Energy. Injecting new impetus into the project and satisfied with the work and skills demonstrated by TCEPL and their knowledge of the project, GDF SUEZ has awarded a new contract for Engineering and Management Services to TCEPL effective January 2014, as well as a separate contract for the Site Supervision and Construction Management. TCEPL is confident of its ability to complete the mission as per the project schedule by mid-2016.

IOCL – MATHURA REFINERY (Uttar Pradesh)
Bringing strong technical credentials and references on similar projects in industries, including the cement and steel industries in India, TCEPL has signed a contract with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to provide full Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, I&C), Procurement and Construction Services, Site Supervision, Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning for the execution of a Waste Heat Recovery Boiler  package for an existing Bitumen Unit at Mathura Refinery (Uttar Pradesh, northern India).TCEPL is supremely qualified to deliver the project which is expected to complete around mid-2015.
